Homemade Hand Sanitizer: Using a sanitizer is a good habit that keeps viruses and bacteria away from reaching you. Nowadays, the threat and jeopardy of Coronavirus have been spreading day by day and killed thousands of people. Everybody is afraid and worried about the future. 

A quality sanitizer is also one of the best ways of prevention from coronavirus or any other virus or bacteria and as the awareness has been spreading out among common people the shortage of hand sanitizer is also becoming a difficulty.  

The manufacturer’s companies have outrageously increased the price of sanitizers even shopkeepers are also priced high of these products and earning enough advantage of a critical situation.

Washing your hands with soap is also a good idea and can protect you. if you are traveling or going outside in the crowd then a hand sanitizer is a better way and always use it before touching your eyes, mouth, or nose.

What is Hand Sanitizer?

Hand sanitizer is available in foam-based, liquid or gel-based formula that includes different types of alcohol like isopropyl alcohol, ethanol alcohol, etc. Sanitizers can be used with water or also can be used without washing your hands, kills bacteria different types of virus that exists on your hands that make you sick.

A fine-quality and effective sanitizer must include 60% to 95% alcohol so it can kill bacteria and viruses.

There are various hand sanitizers available in the market and online so you can buy easily. You must use hand sanitizers if you want to prevent yourself from getting infected with a virus or bacteria.

Alcohol-based Hand sanitizer is quite effective and includes antimicrobial property and the ability to kill 99.9% bacteria and in coronavirus and it can kill bacteria so before touching your nose area or mouth area wash your hands with soap and use a sanitizer.

Homemade Hand Sanitizer:

As you know due to coronavirus there is a shortage of hand sanitizers or they are touching the peak prices so anybody can’t afford it.

We have brought a great method to make a hand sanitizer at home at a cost-effective price and it is much effective like any other market product and prevent you from many diseases and virus including coronavirus.

Here we are describing two methods of making homemade sanitizer so let’s have a look at that:


What you Need:

  • 1 cup IPA or Isopropyl alcohol 70 to 90% ( Rubbing Alcohol )
  • Half cup of Aloe vera gel
  • Tea tree oil or lavender oil 15 drops (optional)
  • Few drops of Almond oil or essential oil

How to Prepare:

  • Mix all the ingredients well into a clean bowl and mix till smooth consistency without any lumps.
  • One can use fresh aloe vera gel or can also buy aloe-vera gel that is easily available.     
  • Now put this mixture into a bottle that you can easily use.
  • Wash the bottle first by using Isopropyl alcohol to sanitize the bottle.
  • The sanitizer is ready for use.   

Method 2:

What you need:

  • 1 cup Isopropyl alcohol 70 to 90% purity ( Rubbing Alcohol )
  • 1 tablespoon glycerin
  • Few drops of tea tree oil

How to prepare:

  • Mix all the ingredients into a clean bowl till the smooth consistency and put it into the bottles.
  • Due to glycerin, it may feel a little sticky to your hands but still, it is equally effective like any other sanitizer.

Special Note:

Some people talking about homemade sanitizer can be also made from vodka but before that, you must know the proper amount of alcohol in vodka-based sanitizer.

Is Homemade Hand Sanitizer Effective?

As we have described the method and ingredients to make homemade sanitizer, they are effective like any other manufactured hand sanitizer.

You can use it before eating something or coming back from your work or touching any part of your body. Also, guide your children about the proper usage of hand sanitizer. Fill it into small bottles you can place it into your pockets.         

✔ Isopropyl alcohol contains antimicrobial and antibacterial properties that kill 99% of bacteria and viruses. It is much helpful to prevent coronavirus and far better than expensive sanitizers that you can’t afford.  

✔ Aloe-vera gel is also very effective and antibacterial and a natural way to kill bacteria and virus from your skin without any side effects.

✔ Tea tree oil also includes antibacterial property and it makes the sanitizer smell great and fresh.

✔ Almond oil keeps your hands smooth and moist. Sometimes sanitizer can make your hands dry and harsh so adding a few drops of oil is a good idea.

✔ Glycerin is also a cheap and natural way and a smart idea to adding with IPA and keeps your hands smooth and soft.   

CDC or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has also suggested using hand sanitizer that must have 60% alcohol to prevent coronavirus. 

✔ Just wash your hands with soap or plain water if the soap is not available and take a small amount of hand sanitizer and rub it well to all parts of your hands until it gets dry.

✔ Do not apply sanitizer if your hands are too much greasy, dirty and nasty.
