Nowadays, modern moms aren’t using old nanny techniques to handle their babies, and putting a diaper is one of them. We can’t deny the fact that diapers are the prior choice of the parents and they can’t imagine their newborn without that.

You just have to use a diaper and dispose of it; it doesn’t require any efforts of washing clothes or any other hassle. But you must know that diapers can be harmful to your little baby(1) and now even studies have proved that excess usage of diapers or long-term usage can cause serious health troubles to your baby.

1. May Cause Allergic Reactions

With the new innovations that are needed in daily life, the diaper manufacturing companies are also included in the competition that is not good for your baby’s skin.

We all know that babies have quite delicate and sensitive skin that can be easily affected by any allergic reactions. (2) Low-class products can harm the baby’s skin and cause allergy.

The poor diapers are manufactured by using chemicals, dyes, and synthetic components so you must avoid using them.  

2. May Lead to Toxicity

Some parents use diapers for their babies for a long time in the day and night time. when your baby wears a diaper for a long time the harmful chemicals and synthetic fibers can cause skin toxicity. (3)

When your baby pees it can react with the skin if you are using a diaper excessively. Long-term usage also includes internal problems for your baby.     

3. More Infection Chances (urine infection)

As you know that the diaper absorbs the liquid and keeps your baby dry and in a particular manner all the diapers have been manufactured. With that, you must also understand that wet diapers can easily contact the outer air that increases the bacteria and they breed rapidly.

4. It May Cause Diaper Rashes

The most common side effects of baby diapers are diaper rashes. Now, this is one of the common troubles that all babies face who wear diapers that’s why you have seen many anti-rashes lotions and creams are also worthy if you are buying diapers. (5)

Wet diapers can easily cause skin rashes due to babies have very soft and fragile skin that can be easily damaged by wetness and bacterial and cause fungal infection too. If you spot any rashes or redness around the lining then avoid the diapers.    

5. Male Babies could cause infertility

The German experts have done a study on the 48 babies as they were searching can diapers affect the fertility process in male babies or not? And they were shocked after the results.

According to the study, they put half babies a cottony cloth and others on disposable diapers, and after one day, they found that babies with disposable diapers had increased 1 degree Celsius means the increased temperature is harmful for sperm production and in the future can cause infertility. 6.Toilet Training Difficulty

Diapers are very popular as they save you from all the hassle of baby’s peeing and pooping and parents are depending on it. The long-term usage can raise a difficulty in toilet training due to your baby gets habitual of a diaper. 

At a particular age, one must avoid putting on diapers so the baby can learn potty training and also inform you about that. 

7. Diapers do not Benefit the 

The diapers companies claim they are making eco-friendly diapers but there are a few companies that are actually making diapers via natural ways.

Though they use chemicals and dyes while making diapers that never decompose naturally and people throw them here and there or flush them which are the wrong way and harming our eco-system.

8.Suppressed Immunity

In a study, a component called volatile organic compounds found in the diapers that affect the immune system of your baby. The babies have already a weak immune system and such products can suppress immunity and they can easily get infected or become sick.

If you found that your baby gets easily infections you should take a strict look at the diaper that is using for the baby.

Alternatives to Diapers

1. Use Cotton Cloth Diapers

Cotton cloth can be an alternative to a diaper since the side effects of baby diapers are more. it has no chemicals or dyes. Use a soft cotton cloth that can absorb the liquid and when you see it is wet simply change it. You can wash it and reuse it multiple times.

 2. Diaper Liners

The liners are also a prominent substitute for a diaper and easily available in the market and they are less-harmful and eco-friendly.

3. Branded Diapers

You can have eco-friendly diapers that would be a great idea, maybe they are a little expensive than the regular diapers but more safe and secure for a baby.

Dos and Don’t


Whenever you see your baby have any skin redness or rashes immediately throw the diaper and apply a mild moisturizer or some coconut oil to toe affected area.

Change the diaper within 2 hours and if a baby passes the poop, frequently change the diaper and wash the skin or use a tissue and gently clean it.

You can go with cloth nappies in the day time and use a diaper in the night time.

If you are traveling, keep yourself some diapers and some clothes and tissue papers.


Never buy a poor quality diaper for your baby even it is cheaper or expensive.

Never leave your baby wet and always checks him after a few minutes.
