5 Spots You're Forgetting to Clean

It’s safe to say that the average person cleans his or her home on a regular basis. You more than likely have a routine: On Mondays, you clean the kitchen, Tuesday is laundry day, and so on and so on.

While we may not enjoy cleaning, we know that it’s a necessity to do as a homeowner. There are some home fixtures that we may overlook or not even know that they need cleaning.

However, having all aspects of your home clean leads to a healthier and safer home. Let’s take a look a few important household items to add to your next cleaning day.

1. Washing Machine:

The washing machine’s name alone makes it seem as though it wouldn’t need cleaning. After all, it spends its life cleaning other items. But washing machines can get dirty due to hard water and detergent buildup.

This can hinder their performance and increase your water and energy bills. The cleaning instructions will vary, depending on the type of washer you have. Consult your manual for the best approach, or check out these guides

2. Light Switches:

Light switches are touched all day, every day, by various people. This means they carry more germs than you may ever think! Be sure to wipe them down at least once a week.

We suggest using an antibacterial wipe to make the job easier as well. Not only will this help keep the home clean, but it also helps keep your home healthy by avoiding the unnecessary spreading of germs.

3. Air Conditioners:

Air conditioners are so often overlooked, and poor maintenance can lead to larger repairs in the future and increased energy bills. Keep the area around the AC unit free of debris and dirt, and change the filters every 30 to 90 days.

It’s also important to have the coils cleaned. For this, you’ll want to call in an HVAC technician to service the system. A clean HVAC system will lead to smaller energy bills and a cleaner home.

4. Remotes:

Your remotes are also being touched by people throughout the day. Therefore, they have a plethora of germs residing on their buttons. A quick wipe down every few days will ensure that you are not spreading germs throughout your home.

It also will keep off any sticky food that may have found its way between the buttons, leading to a longer life for your remotes.

5. Ceiling Fans:

When not in use, ceiling fans collect an enormous amount of dust and dirt. If not cleaned regularly, this dust will all come flying down the next time the fan is turned on.

Every few weeks, take a duster to the top of the fan blades and give them a good wipe down. You’ll be saved from a dust shower when the summer heat arrives and the fans are back in use.

While cleaning is not anyone’s favorite thing to do, it’s a must if you want a clean, safe, and healthy home. With these suggestions, you can be sure that all aspects of your home are in top condition.
